Sharptooth Vocalist Lauren Kashan

Sharptooth band
Kat Nijmeddin

Lauren Kashan vocalist of Sharptooth joins us to discuss the band’s latest release, Transitional Forms.

Transitional Forms is the band’s second LP following 2015’s Clever Girl.

The conversation starts with us discussing Lauren’s incredible vocal transformation. She worked her ass off to improve her chops and it shows! I believe she mentions taking lessons from the legendary Melissa Cross. Whether this was through Melissa’s online coursework or in person, I forget, but it clearly paid dividends! Melissa has worked with true titans in the metal industry. Lauren is well on her way to becoming a legend herself.

Anyhow, this conversation transitioned into a discussion of the new Sharptooth album, Transitional Forms. “Hey, why is it called that anyway?.” Lauren answer this and everything you’d want to know about the new album in our chat. This includes the lyrical content. Sharptooth is a politically active band and Lauren is a strong activist herself. Naturally, we discuss the COVID-19 pandemic and the political unrest rising in this country. I will direct those who want to make a difference to ActBlue to support organizations fighting against racism and police brutality.

Surprisingly, the guys got to live out a dream and discuss Dungeons & Dragons with Lauren, who is an avid player! We get in detail about Lauren’s character and character voice while we spill about our favorite characters to role play as well. I would be remiss if I didn’t give Roll20 some massive love for helping us nerds continue to play safely during a global pandemic.

What wasn’t surprising was that we had another amazing chat with Lauren Kashan. A true gem. Thanks Lauren!
