January Metal Albums
Metal in January was interesting and we think that 2020 is off to a good start! The death metal trend of 2019 continues into the new year, but the inclusion of non-standard instruments is going to take metal to great places this year!
Puritan Masochism by Konvent
The Danish band Konvent released their first full length album on January 24, 2020. Puritan Masochism brings intensity through their doom inspired death metal. The four women from Copenhagen have proved they aren’t to be ignored.
Naiv by Thy Catafalque
Thy Catafalque brings some of the most unique sounds we’ve heard in quite some time. Naiv was released on January 24, 2020 and features a staggering level of musicianship and experimentation. Based out of Hungary, Thy Catafalque brings it’s avant-garde styling alive thanks to it’s single member, Tamás Kátai.
II by Snorlax
Brisbane, Australia based act Snorlax dropped a six track EP on January 10, 2020. Snorlax is a solo act by Brendan Auld that is sounds like a old school black metal band with a touch of death metal. The album is dark, intense, emotional, and raw.
Vicious Inhumanity by Rat King
Seattle, Washington death/grind band released their newest album on January 17, 2020. Rat King is an blend of death, thrash, grid and sludge. Vicious Inhumanity is a intense ride.
The Invisible Seam by Fliege
Fliege takes death metal in a really unique direction with their album, The Invisible Seam. This album is incredible accessible. It’s core is certainly extreme metal, but thanks to it’s inclusion of clean backing vocals and dark synthwave inspired soundscapes anyone can dig this album. The Invisible Seam was released on January 31, 2020.
Grave Image by Deathwhite
Deathwhite describes themselves as a “enigmatic dark metal collective.” We this is spot on. Grave Image is a haunting, atmospheric experience. The most surprising thing about Grave Image is the vocal delivery. Given the intensity of the instrumentals you’d expect extreme vocals, but the clean vocals fit really well into the dark atmosphere.
