Blacktop Mojo released their third full length album, Under the Sun, on September 13, 2019. The album has received positive response and experienced success, reaching number 19 on the Billboard Hard Rock albums charts. Likewise, its debut single “Can’t Sleep” climbed to number 27 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Top 40 chart.
Matt James is the lead vocalist and frontman for Blacktop Mojo. James’ dynamic vocals provide the band with a sound akin to familiar hard rock bands such as Soundgarden, Seether, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
This episode, James joins Mark Radlund to discuss the band’s rise in popularity, his vocal influences, opening for Bon Jovi, their viral Phil Collins cover, honky-tonks, and the religion that is football in the state of Texas. James also discusses his admiration for Chris Cornell, the upcoming tour, and starting out as a cover band in Texas dive bars.
Blacktop Mojo is currently on tour across the United States. Check out their upcoming dates on their website.
