Brigitte Roka is the lead singer of the band Aboleth who hails from Los Angeles, California. We first discovered the band when interviewing Erik Kluiber during his promotion of No Legacy Records. He featured the song “No Good” on his compilation and we were immediately hooked.
The band mixes many influences in their sound to exciting returns; we’ll call them “bluesy-doom-stoner-rock-n-metal.” Brigitte often receives comparisons to the incomparable Janis Joplin, channeling Janis’s ability to entirely give herself away to the song both spiritually and emotionally. However, the comparisons stop there, Brigitte’s grit, piss and vinegar forges a unique sound unique to herself in the best way.
The band itself is going through a transition period, Brigitte and her former guitarist parted ways secondary to creative differences. Despite this, the band has no intentions to stop writing or playing live under the Aboleth moniker. We expect big things from Brigitte and Aboleth in the future and are excited to see where this new path takes them.
We debuted our new interview format this episode and Brigitte was game to participate. In this particular episode, we had Brigitte pick her own adventure, similar to the books you may have read or heard about as a kid. In between picking her adventure, we asked her questions regarding her band and personal life. We wanted a format that would stand out and make the interviews more entertaining. We took inspiration from First We Feast’s segment Hot Ones with Sean Evans.
