“Doom Gloom & Poon” | Crusty Old Toad Review

The guys review Doom Gloom & Poon by Crusty Old Toad.

This week we checked out the latest release by Toaderus Crusticus, the man behind the band. Toaderus is a one man metal writing machine. Usually, that’s a challenge to pull off but, our favorite metal amphibian handles it with ease. Being fans of his past work, we were pretty hyped for this one. We were not disappointed. Though not a flawless album, Doom Gloom & Poon offers all the things that drew us to the band in the first place. The tasty melodic leads, the traditional & black metal elements, a frog, and plenty of humor.

I do need to take a minute to spotlight the aesthetic of this band. The look combined with the humor is a major selling point. You may stumble across The Toad and not even realize there’s a shtick. I implore you dear reader (who even reads these days? …Am I just typing to myself for SEO reasons? …Is anyone listening …Am I just continuing this bit to meet a word count?) to look into the band’s shtick. It’ll add to the experience!

As always, we go deep on the album by discussing the following topics:

  • Introduction
  • Chord progression/leads/hooks
  • Instrumentals/vocals
    • Production
  • Lyrics/themes
  • Critiques
  • Overall impression
