John Kevill of Warbringer on Weapons of Tomorrow

Warbringer – Weapons of Tomorrow

Thrash band, Warbringer, released their 6th studio album Weapons of Tomorrow on April 24th. John Kevill, vocalist of the band, joins us to discuss the album, the band’s writing processes, and his start with heavy metal.

Weapons of Tomorrow followed a collaborative song writing process. Members of the band brought ideas, riffs, lyrics, and structures to the rest of the group, and the songs were built from there. There were cases where lyrics and vocals had been fully baked to point of finished studio recordings before the underlying songs were even complete.

Thrash metal has a been around as a successful subgenre for a long time. How does a band from the 21st century stand out against the, as John puts it, “canon classics?” How do you differentiate yourself from likes of titans like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Kreator, Exodus, and Testament?

This is something that John has put a lot of time, energy, and thought into. The classic thrash albums were honest. They were “riffs and shredding” and weren’t trying to “sell you anything.”
