Rikke Emilie List and Julie Simonsen, from Konvent, join us on the podcast to discuss their debut LP, Puritan Masochism. The album was released on January 24, 2020. Michael was out during the recording of this episode, so, you all get to enjoy a solo Ty episode. It is yet to be determined if this is a good or bad thing. You may have to ask Rikke and Julie!
The ladies of Konvent were a pleasure to talk to. We shared many laughs discussing Lars Ulrich and other famous Danes, as well as Geralt of Rivia (played by Henry Cavill). Of course, we dig into the formation of the band, and the personal influences that inspired Rikke and Julie from a musical standpoint. It was also enlightening to learn what has inspired them outside of music, such as video games, movies, and books.
What attracted us to this band was the stellar guttural vocals by Rikke complimented by the menacingly straightforward instrumentation from the band. These dynamics form a chemistry that can’t be replicated and grant the band their unique sound. A great example of this is the title tack, “Puritan Masochism.” We first showcased this band on our episode, “Month in Metal | January 2020.” Fans of our show talked about Konvent more than any other band we featured on that particular episode. From then on, it was our mission to get them on the podcast. We were very lucky to have them on as guests and hope you all enjoy it!
Three tracks from Puritan Masochism are played throughout this episode. Those tracks are “Puritan Masochism,” “Trust,” and “World of Gone.”
