Andrew Rothmund, editor-in-chief at Invisible Oranges, joins us on the podcast to discuss his role on the site, his path in getting there, and what the website represents. On top of this, we get into some of the biggest interviews he’s had, such as Randy Blithe of Lamb Of God fame. We do touch upon the plans for Invisible Oranges to have a larger YouTube presence, what makes a good metal review, and the state of metal music.
One of Andrew’s primary focuses is finding excellent writers for the site. It’s obvious when reading the content on the site that these are some of the best writers and journalists that metal has to offer and take passion in what they do. As we so often find, those who pour their creative juices into the metal community do so for the love of the genre.
We do talk a little bit about Andrew’s day-to-day tasks as editor-in-chief, which we found particularly interesting. Andrew gives us insight into what bands should provide in their promotional emails. A bulk of his time is spent handling emails from said bands. FYI, you have to have a great subject line to stick out!
An example of unique content that helps Invisible Oranges stick out above the rest are its curated music lists. The website’s monthly Release Roundups showcase fresh metal on the internet where you’re sure to find your new favorite band.
Andrew and every other member of IO work in their spare time. Andrew’s full-time gig is photography. We spend time discussing how the dark and raw aspects of his photography style have been influenced by his love for metal music. Obviously, you can’t always use dark gloomy moods at weddings, but you get the point.
Overall, our chat with Andrew was insightful and it was nice to peel back the skin (not sorry about that pun) on Invisible Oranges. Andrew was very candid and his passion for metal is evident.
