On January 5, 2020, Haunt released their third full length studio album, Mind Freeze. When we last chatted with Trevor, it was after Haunt’s first studio album. A lot has changed since then!
Haunt is a traditional heavy metal band lead by Trevor William Church. You’ll find inspiration from legacy acts like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest in Haunt’s music, but you’ll also find the flair from likes of Def Leppard to the speed of Megadeth.
That’s not to say Haunt hasn’t already found a sound they can call their own after just three albums. Trevor’s tracks follow the mantra “keep it simple, stupid.” The format is reminiscent of bands like The Beetles, never straying too far from traditional song structures centered around a hooky melody and a catchy riff.
Haunt had some work to do to follow up their well received March 2019 release, If Icarus Could Fly. Icarus was featured on many “best albums of the year” lists, including making 17th on Decibel Magazine’s top 50. Haunt delivered. Mind Freeze is an evolution of the band’s sound. The album expands on the energy, riffage, and efficiency we have come to expect from Haunt. What’s more, is the introduction of some electronic elements. The album has just the right amount of synth straight from the mid ’80s to add new texture to the music.
Despite releasing 16 EPs and an LP since 2017, Trevor has decided that isn’t enough work. He’s since started working with bands on production, recording, and mixing in his home studio. Church Recordings is up and running. Trevor has worked with several bands including Hysteria, Raptor, and Dream Tröll.
We’re excited to see what happens next with Trevor and all of his projects. We at Super Metal World are confident whatever happens will be fantastic and you’ll hear it from us first.
