Nile – Vile Nilotic Rites
Nile is one of the bands that always comes up when discussing the best death metal bands. It’s for good reason, too. Since their first studio release in 1998, they’ve helped set the bar for the genre. Since then, Nile has released nine studio records. Nile’s latest release, Vile Nilotic Rites, is brutal, technical, fast, and intense.
Vile Nilotic Rites was release on November 1, 2019. It features eleven in-your-face tracks. The record clocks in at just under an hour. In classic Nile fashion, the record is inspired by ancient Egyptian history, religion, and art. They also pull inspiration from the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Vile Nilotic Rites features new members Brad Parris (bass) and Brian Kinsland (guitars).

Karl Sanders
Karl Sanders is most certainly a veteran of heavy metal. He’s been the mastermind behind the Nile war machine since the mid-90s. One thing that sets this album up for such great success is the fact that the newest members of Nile were immediately productive and shared the Nile mindset. According to Karl, you absolutely can’t underestimate when everyone is on the same page.
Karl’s recent trip to Egypt played a major part in the inspiration of Vile Nilotic Rights. His experiences there were a direct result of a few of the tracks within this album.
Listen to the episode so you don’t miss out on Karl discussing a number of topics regarding Nile and their latest release. You’ll hear about the troubles the band has had with labels in the past (especially as a fledgling band). Karl also describes his experience playing a massive show at Ozzfest in 2007 as the act before Slayer. Karl is a fourth degree blackbelt. He likens the conviction and dedication it takes to achieve that to becoming a successful and believable band.
Throughout this episode, you’ll hear three tracks from Vile Nilotic Rites:
- “That Which is Forbidden”
- “The Imperishable Stars are Sickened”
- “Snake Pit Mating Frenzy”
Be sure to pick up Vile Nilotic Rites! You can find Nile on their website, Nuclear Blast, and Facebook.
