Gatecreeper is one of the fastest growing metal bands in the world. Chase Mason, vocalist of the band, joins us to discuss Deserted, the band’s latest release. Deserted is a great example of modern death metal with old school influences. Despite the fact it’s only the band’s second studio album, Gatecreeper has proven that they are just as capable as any long-standing band.
Deserted was released on October 4, 2019. The album was met with immediate praise. Deserted is a prime example of death metal in its purest form. It manages to be intense and overwhelming throughout, but thanks to its pacing and dynamic nature, it allows the listener to breathe at just the right times.
Gatecreeper has been on a very strong upward trajectory since their first release, Sonoran Depravation, in 2016. It too was met with high praise, but Deserted is certainly a step up. The band has clearly grown since that release. Without a doubt the musicianship is there.
Podcasts and online reviewers aren’t the only ones to take notice of Gatecreeper. Decibel Magazine’s November 2019 issue features the band on the front cover and on the included flexi disc. If there’s any organization that understands and appreciates death metal, it’s Decibel.
Despite the cliches and stereotypes, death metal is one of the most dynamic and flexible genres in metal. However, understanding and appreciating this isn’t always easy. Death metal is the place to be and with that comes finding new, interesting and extreme metal.
Gatecreeper has a tour lined up for the rest of 2019 and they are looking forward to touring for much of 2020. Check out Gatcreeper on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Support and buy their music on Bandcamp and Relapse records.
