Afterburner by Dance Gavin Dance

This week we review the album Afterburner by Dance Gavin Dance. It is the band’s 9th studio LP and was released on April 24th. The album centers itself around elements of post-hardcore, metalcore, and emo.

The album isn’t rooted in any subgenre of extreme metal. This results in a much different tone and overall message than most metalheads are used to. This is one of the center points of the episode and is discussed heavily. The general sense of positivity and high spirits the music evokes is not at all what you’d find on a death or thrash record.

No episode of Pop Fan Reviews would be complete without discussing some of our favorite tracks and individual moments on the record.

Our review of Afterburner by Dance Gavin Dance is the closest we’ve come to mainstream, poppy music. That doesn’t mean it’s not worth a metalheads time. Listen to the episode and you’ll undesrtand how someone who loves extreme metal can find enjoyment in the album. It’s complex, deep, and—at moments—heavy.

You can listen to the album on all streaming platforms! Check out the band on their website!
